Mi-Wave U-Band Upconverters deliver a high-performance and flexible solution for wideband frequency translation in advanced microwave and millimeter-wave systems. Engineered for precision applications, this upconverter translates DC to 10 GHz IF signals into a 47.5  – 52.5  GHz U-band RF output, enabling seamless integration into modern transmit architectures.

An integrated synthesizer-based LO provides exceptional frequency stability and control, with full configurability through a GUI or API interface. This enables remote operation, repeatability, and synchronization across complex systems. The LO supports CW, Sweep, and Hop modes, including external trigger capability, making it ideal for agile signal generation and dynamic test environments.

The unit delivers 40 dB of conversion gain with low variation across the operating band, along with output power up to +40 dBm, supporting high-power transmit chains and demanding link budgets. A 22 dB digital step attenuator allows precise amplitude control, while ultra-fine phase adjustment with 0.002° resolution enables accurate signal alignment in phased, coherent, and beamforming systems.

To maintain superior signal quality, the upconverter incorporates an embedded RF cavity output filter, enhancing harmonic suppression and overall spectral purity. Operating from a single +15 V supply, the compact design simplifies system integration across a wide range of platforms.

RF Upconversion Functionality

The U-Band Upconverter translates lower-frequency signals, including DC to 10 GHz IF inputs, into high-frequency RF output signals in the 47.5  – 52.5 GHz range, enabling compatibility with a wide range of transmit systems, signal generators, and communication platforms. This frequency translation stage allows baseband and intermediate frequency signals to be converted into millimeter-wave frequencies for transmission.

In transmit architectures, the upconverter is typically followed by an RF power amplifier (PA) to increase the signal to the required transmit level.
