Description

The Mi-Wave 980E-75/12.5/387 E-Band Transmitter is a compact millimeter-wave upconverter designed to translate lower-frequency IF signals into RF output signals from 71 to 86 GHz. Its broad frequency coverage supports high-capacity E-band communications, radar, telemetry, test and measurement, and millimeter-wave research applications.

The transmitter accepts IF input signals from DC to 12 GHz and uses an external local oscillator ranging from 11.8 to 14.4 GHz to generate the required E-band RF output. It provides approximately 10 dB of typical IF-to-RF conversion gain, with measured values ranging from 6 to 11 dB.

The unit delivers approximately +14 dBm typical saturated output power, with measured values as high as +16 dBm. Its typical output P1dB is +9 dBm, supporting reliable linear operation for modulated and continuous-wave signals.

The IF and LO interfaces use female SMA connectors, while the RF output uses WR-12 waveguide with a UG-387/U flange. The compact enclosure measures approximately 1.5 × 1.5 × 0.9 inches and is manufactured from 6061-T6 aluminum with a gold-plated finish.

The transmitter operates from a +8 to +12 VDC bias supply and typically draws approximately 0.2 A. The DC supply must be capable of providing at least 0.9 A during startup.

Typical applications include E-band point-to-point communication links, radar transmitters, telemetry systems, frequency extenders, signal-generation platforms, electronic warfare equipment, and laboratory test systems.
