U-Band 980 Series Balanced Mixer Upconverter

980W-75/100/-10/SMP/387 | 75 GHz–100GHz

Description

The Mi-Wave 980W-75/100/-10/SMP/387 980 Series Balanced Mixer Upconverter is a broadband millimeter-wave frequency converter designed to translate lower-frequency IF signals into RF output signals from 75 to 100 GHz. Its wide W-band coverage supports communications, radar, telemetry, signal generation, test and measurement, and millimeter-wave research applications.

The upconverter accepts IF input frequencies from 1 kHz to 2 GHz at a nominal IF drive level of 0 dBm. It uses an external local oscillator operating from 12.5 to 16.666 GHz to generate the required W-band RF output. The specified LO drive level is +4 dBm, with the tested unit operating from +4 to +7 dBm.

The unit provides a typical RF output power better than −10 dBm across its operating range. Typical RF spurious performance is better than −20 dBc, while measured harmonic performance is also better than −20 dBc.

The upconverter operates from a nominal +5 VDC supply and draws approximately 430 mA under quiescent conditions and 520 mA typical with RF drive applied. The maximum allowable bias voltage is +8 VDC. Maximum LO and IF input power levels are both +10 dBm.

The RF output uses a WR-10 waveguide interface, supporting broadband operation throughout the specified 75–100 GHz frequency range.

Typical applications include W-band communications, radar transmitters, telemetry systems, electronic warfare, signal generation, frequency extenders, spectrum-analysis systems, test and measurement, laboratory research, and custom millimeter-wave upconverter assemblies.
