Ka-Band RF Transmitter

980A-34.5/381S | 26.5 to 40 GHz

Description

The Mi-Wave 980A-34.5/381S Ka-Band RF Transmitter is a high-performance, dual-channel system designed for transmit applications operating from 33 to 36 GHz. It provides precise and stable conversion of 8.5–11.5 GHz IF input signals to Ka-Band output frequencies while maintaining spectral purity, channel-to-channel phase tracking, and repeatable performance.

The transmitter uses a high-quality 24.1–24.825 GHz external local oscillator input and provides selectable High Power (HiP), Low Power (LoP), and Low Noise Power (LNP) operating paths. These modes allow system designers to optimize output power, linearity, and noise performance for specific operating requirements. The HiP path provides up to 33 dB of conversion gain and an output P1dB of 30 dBm, making the transmitter well suited for Ka-Band satellite uplinks, radar transmit chains, and high-power test systems.

Designed for integration into advanced RF platforms, the 980A-34.5/381S supports dual-channel, phase-matched operation for horizontal and vertical polarization paths connected to an orthomode transducer (OMT). A WR-28 waveguide RF output provides efficient, low-loss signal delivery across the Ka-Band operating range.

Integrated digital attenuation from 0 to 24 dB in 1 dB steps enables repeatable output-level adjustment, while fast on/off switching of 1 µs or less supports agile transmission, pulsed operation, and rapid system control.

Coupled IF test points are provided for both channels, allowing signal monitoring and system verification without interrupting the primary RF output paths. Standard D-Sub control interfaces support digital selection of power modes, attenuation settings, channels, and other applicable operating functions.

Operating from a 28 VDC supply, the transmitter is designed for reliable use in commercial, industrial, laboratory, and controlled-environment installations. Strong spurious suppression, low harmonic content, and stable phase matching make it well suited for Ka-Band satellite communications, radar, telemetry, dual-polarization systems, and millimeter-wave test and measurement.
